Topstays
Topstays – aluminium compression stays that keep the rigger frame rigid.
Topstays link the top of the pin to the gunwale, usually near the washboard. Together with the rigger tubes they form a stiff triangle that prevents flex under load.
On reversed riggers the stay connects to a frame member near the foot stretcher. Length is adjusted using a sliding extender secured with hose clamps. This allows the rigger to be set up correctly without preload on the fittings when the boat is at rest.
